Pediatric Head Injury: Concussion


Welcome to the training on Pediatric Head Injury: Concussion provided by Texas Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

Credit hours: 1.0 CE

Pediatric Head Injury includes three companion modules, each offering a continuing education credit of 1.0 hours. You are encouraged to enroll in the complete package of modules:

  1. Pediatric Head Injury: Overview
  2. Pediatric Head Injury: Abusive Head Trauma
  3. Pediatric Head Injury: Concussion


The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and others to identify, treat, and prevent pediatric head trauma, including common minor and traumatic injuries, abusive head trauma, and concussions.

Target Audience

Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health-care professionals.

Specific Learning Objectives

After completing the activities of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Appraise appropriate methods and tools to diagnose concussion.
  2. Determine the appropriate response to and treatment for concussion, including deciding when it is appropriate for a child to return to learning and playing sports.
  3. Using a case study, recommend key techniques that families can use to help prevent a concussion in their child.

Note: For the purposes of this module, the term "parents" also refers to guardians and other caregivers.
