Welcome to the training on Preconception and Prenatal Health: Promoting and Maintaining Women’s Oral Health provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

Credit hours: 1.25 CE

Goal

The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and other health-care professionals to improve the preconception and prenatal health of women in Texas.

Target Audience

Primary care providers and other health professionals who treat adolescent and adult female patients who may become pregnant again or for the first time.

Note: For purposes of this module, the term "women" also includes adolescent girls of reproductive age.

Specific Learning Objectives

After completing the activities of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Determine the oral health problems that may affect the health of women and infants.
  2. Assess the oral health status of a pregnant woman (or woman who may become pregnant) and provide appropriate counseling and referral.
