Welcome to the training on Immunization provided by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) and the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).

Goal

The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health-care professionals to apply national immunization schedules and recommendations, counsel parents about immunizations, and employ best practices for vaccine administration, storage and handling, and reporting.

Specific Learning Objectives

After completing the activities of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Apply the recommended routine and catch-up immunization schedules for children and adolescents.
  2. Assess effective strategies for counseling parents about the importance of vaccinating their children.
  3. Specify precautions and contraindications that affect administration of vaccines.
  4. Summarize appropriate administration routes and techniques to use when vaccinating children and adolescents.
  5. Review proper procedures for the safe storage and handling of vaccines.
  6. Employ the features of the Texas Immunization Registry (ImmTrac) to improve delivery of immunizations and meet legal reporting requirements.
