Oral Health For Primary Care Providers


Welcome to the training on Oral Health For Primary Care Providers provided by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) and the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and other health-care professionals to implement best practices in assessing and promoting the oral health of children birth through 20 years of age.

Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health-care professionals.

Specific Learning Objectives

After completing the activities of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Evaluate the primary care provider’s responsibility to assess and promote oral health as an important component of overall health.
  2. Apply best practices for routine clinical assessment of oral health in infants and children, recognize common tooth conditions that require referral to a dentist, and provide age-appropriate anticipatory guidance.
  3. Integrate recommended practices such as referral to a dental home into your clinical practice.
