Completion of this course does not certify you to bill Medicaid for oral evaluation and fluoride varnish.

If you are a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Advanced Registered Practice Nurse and wish to receive certification to perform this service and bill Medicaid, you must provide additional certification information.

Goal

The goal of this module is to equip Texas Health Steps providers and others with best practices for promoting oral health in children 6 through 35 months of age, including the importance of becoming certified to provide Oral Evaluation and Fluoride Varnish OEFV services.

Target Audience

Texas Health Steps providers and other interested health-care professionals.

Specific Learning Objectives

After completing the activities of this module, you will be able to:

  1. Explain the prevalence, impact, and disease process of dental caries.
  2. Summarize how the OEFV service promotes oral health for children 6 through 35 months.
  3. Integrate effective dental caries prevention and intervention strategies as part of routine medical care.
