In this course, “car seat” refers to rear-facing and forward-facing seats with harnesses. “Booster seat,” a type of car seat, refers to a seat that is used with the vehicle’s lap and shoulder belts. It is important for primary care providers to use everyday terms that are familiar to parents and caregivers and to provide a clear description when needed. For the purposes of this course, the term “parents” includes all family members and caregivers, whether they are the driver or a passenger, or are securing their child for a ride with someone else.
